B was the neighborhood drugstore of New Orleans. On hot summer days, we’d run there for an icy root beer, and in the winter, we’d hurry in for spearmint candies. The iconic purple-and-gold sign is etched into my memory forever. Some of my happiest childhood moments were spent chasing my grandmother through the aisles, trying to sneak little treats into her basket when she wasn’t looking.
